With some different opinions and ideas on what certain shinobi are and aren't, we've decided to split a few things up on NCW into Ranks and Titles. Ranks and Titles are given to shinobi depending on their level of skill as well as what they tend to specialize in. Ranks and Titles are different, and although someone may have a specific title, it does not necessarily give them any more power or any more Jutsu than another character of the same rank. This thread will explain the differences between Ranks and Titles so that members don't get confused when creating their characters.
Ranks & Ranking Up^
In the world of shinobi, Hidden Villages divide their forces up into ranks depending on the ninja's skill. The higher the rank, the potentially more powerful that particular shinobi is. On NCW, you'll find that we have left the 'Special Jounin' rank out of our rankings; this is because on most RP forums this rank is completely over looked and in the end, not needed. Instead, we have broken the ninja ranks down into the main three, with an optional starting one for members who wish to utilize it:
Academy Student: Ninja Academy students are taught the basic Jutsu skills. Once they have mastered the needed skills, they are able to graduate and become actual ninja. However if the new Genin do not impress their Jounin sensei, they can be sent back to the Academy for further training. This rank is OPTIONAL.
Genin: Genin are the lowest of ninja skill levels. They possess a knowledge of all the basic ninja skills and will do lower C & D rank missions with their Jounin sensei. This is the mandatory starting rank of all shinobi on NCW that aren't reservation characters.
Chuunin: The Chuunin is the basic journeyman ninja of the village. These ninja can become field doctors or teachers. They were formerly Genin who were promoted for displaying excellent intelligence, strategy and combat skills. Chuunin have the equivalent rank of military captain, exhibiting strong stamina, knowledge and inner wisdom.
Jounin: The Jounin are ninja who are highly skilled in all jutsu skills and arts. The Jounin generally serve as squad commander for mission operations. Jounin are considered the strongest of shinobi ranks and are reserved for higher ranking missions, as well as teaching and leading Genin squads.
These are the ranks of NCW, and with them, comes ways to rank them up. If you haven't already, please see our Mission and Training Systems for more information on the process of training and running missions with your characters to achieve ranking up; however, to rank up a shinobi must do the following amount of missions:
Genin - Chuunin: 5 C or Above Ranked Missions
Chuunin - Jounin: 10 B or Above Ranked Missions
Ninja Titles
Titles on NCW are somewhat akin to professions, or jobs if you would, within a shinobi village. Saying that an ANBU member for instance is any stronger than another Jounin isn't always correct. A Canon reference of this would be Kakashi being of 'ANBU' quality, and even having been part of the ANBU at one point in his life, but being a normal Jounin. Titles such as these should be treated as specialized professions instead of actual ranks with their own increases in power and Jutsu knowledge, and so we have split them from the ranks of Naruto and given them their own meaning along with perks for each title.
Titles are unable to be gained until a character has reached Chuunin in rank, in which they are able to decide which title they would like to strive for, if any.
Kage: The village Kage is the strongest ninja in the hidden village. The Kage serves as the pillar upon which the village stands and the strength a village presents to the other ninja countries largely depends upon the strength of the Kage in power.
Perks: 10% off store items.
ANBU: The ANBU, meaning "dark side" is actually short for Ansatsu Senjutsu Tokushu Butai (literally Assassination Tactics Special Military Force). The ANBU work directly under the leadership of the Hokage.
Perks: 10% off Ninjutsu.
Hunter-Nin: These shinobi hunters search for ninja who have abandoned their village. Nicknamed the "Undertaker Squad" they have a high knowledge in physiology to further their killing abilities. Once they kill their target, they will dispose of the body without a trace.
Perks: 10% off Genjutsu.
Medical Nin: These specialized ninja are responsible for the health and well being of ninja injured in battle. Specially trained medical ninja such can also help the skilled animals which fight for the villages also.
Perks: 10% off Taijutsu.
Infantry: The infantry are the shinobi villages normal ninja. All ninja are considered infantry unless otherwise split into a special title of their own later in life. All shinobi become part of this title when they rank up to Chuunin, however, do not get the perks of the Infantry title if they split off into another Title.
Perks: 5% off all store items.
